Gina Tate Artistic Director of THE POINTE! Studio of Dance and Robin T. Rich-McGhie with Elise Jonell Performance Ensemble have joined together to produce an annual all dance rendition of the popular movie classic, “THE WIZ”. This is our 8th Dance Production. This is an all dance interpretation of the 1978 movie production of The Wiz a re-imagining of the classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. This performance is an adaptation that is interpreted through what we have titled a Theatrical Ballet. It features musi- cal dance numbers that express the story-line and artistry of dance and acting through Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop. It features a cast comprised of predominantly children from the community and it is an awesome, enjoyable, family-oriented event.
This is not your ordinary kids show, this is a show for all audiences that will see a professional and phe- nomenal performance. This past summer we were featured at the National Black Theatre Festival as a main stage show with our rendition of “It’s A Hard Knock Life”. A Dance adaption of Annie and the only chil- dren’s groups to ever perform from Greensboro.
-This week I had the pleasure of get- ting a behind the scenes peek into the world of dance. I attended several rehearsals in the studio and on stage. This experience is one I won’t long forget. These kids are getting a training that is on a profes- sional level. I am a true art critic. I don’t tolerate half done produc- tions. I only celebrate the best that our community has to offer. So I’m proud to bring to you this month this article that highlights The Pointe studio of dance.
What really impressed me was the level of dedication that these young children possess. You can see their dedication to their craft in the presentation of it. The highest quality of mixture of ballet, contemporary, and even hip- hop. The leaders of this organization should be com- mended on the work they do with these kids.
