Sassool Mediterranean restaurant offers the best in international cuisine. This casual dining experience is perfect mid-week outing for a date or even the family. Their focus on offering the most authentic Greek and Mediterranean cuisine is very noticeable from first bite. I spoke with the chef and owner Mounir, his passion for providing the freshest ingredients leads him to the local farmers to provide the highest quality of produce and meats to serve his customers
I felt like family as he gave me a tour of the kitchen. A well organized and vibrant space, with sous chefs chopping up veggies, and grill masters cooking up their famous kabobs, to the hot stone oven where they make their breads to order. Every detail has been considered to provide you a feeling that you are no longer in Cary, NC but on the seas of the Mediterranean.
Chef Mounir shared with me how he got started with this family business. Which is run by himself and two daughters. He started years ago, working in his family bakery business with his brothers, where he learned the restaurant business. About five years’ age he felt lead to break out on his own, so that’s exactly what he did. He took his experience and opened the first Sassool restaurant.
I was prepared several dishes that were very colorful and were full of flavor. The first a staple in their culture the falafel. This dishes was incredible! I’ve eaten falafel on several occasions. To be honest I was never a fan of the dish. I think due to the fact most times I’ve had it, the dish was over cooked and dry to taste. This on the other hand was moist and very yummy. I was also given a chicken salad dish, that was mixed with walnuts and yellow raisins, the consistency was very innovative to me and quite flavorsome.
The dinner ended with a sample of dessert, I was provided a stuffed date, and baklava. Both were very interesting in flavor, a little too sweet for my taste, but altogether a great ending to an international excursion right in Cary North Carolina. So, if you are looking for a destination getaway on a budget. I totally recommend Sassool! It gets three stars from Live Free Magazine.
